Переглядів 9 тис.Місяць тому
Let's take a look at a second generation Honda Ridgeline. How does this perform as a "truck?" How does it tow a trailer, off road and carry cargo? What about putting a child seat in the back? How quick is it in the 0-60? And what kind of fuel economy can you expect? These are things we'll be looking at, as well as one of the most IMPORTANT factors of any vehicle: how RELIABLE are they, and what...
Toyota 4Runner FRAME SWAP (Headers/Exhaust, 3" Lift and New Frame) 4th Gen V8 Rusty & Rotted
Переглядів 12 тис.9 місяців тому
You know the Toyota frame recall/warranty? Yeah, the 4Runners were never covered under that, so 4th gen 4runner and GX470 owners are left to fend for themselves when it comes to either frame rust repair or frame replacement. Here's the kicker: the frames are now DISCONTINUED, so salvage frames are becoming more of a hot commodity. In this video, we find a clean salvage RWD V6 frame and convert ...

Updates on the Xterra: the rear differential had a LOT of metal stuck to the drain plug magnet. The transfer case and front diff were similar, but not quite as bad. I "fixed" the noisy radiator fan by replacing the incredibly viscous silica in the fan clutch with Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to have ever done this. I also replaced the front and rear sway bar bu...

Trading our BROKEN 4th Gen 4Runner For a Nissan Xterra... Is It Worth It?

We tried everything we could (short of a frame swap) to fix the 4Runner. But we're making the "smart" decision to cut our losses and pick out something similar, newer and from the south. We decided on a 2014 Nissan Xterra. The Xterra's are reliable, stout and very capable off road. But this one needs a little bit of TLC. I only had a vaccum leak on 2.5 4cyl with surging rpm on idle, changed purge valve and all good
Looking into a 2018 Q7 Prestige
If it's a 2017+ Honda it's trash. They have nothing but electric gremlins and the paint is trash. They have fallen so far.
yeah i have a 2010 limited V6...i've replaced drive shaft $1,200, rear wheel bearings $500, n replaced the recall rear tie rods at $1100 with aftermarket parts...most dealers will NOT touch the recall i called 4 dealers who basically said i would have to replace tires yearly lol...n here i thought a recall was suppose to fix the issue permanently...i also contacted Toyota directly who basically said yeah they would not reimbursing me the cost of replacing the tie rods...thanx Toyota!!!
I got 290k on mine loves it
This was a super helpful video. Thanks.
I have 2018 model. Had the 3 recalls all done. Other then that I've had zero problems. Agree with the dead pedal foot rest. It's way to close.
Awesome to hear it’s treated you well so far!

We had a bit of a scare with our 2018 Q7. It was scheduled for a routine checkup, but a time before that, the timing belt had just jumped of according to Møller (Norwegian VW group distributor). But before that we did drive it around, but since we have the e-tron version we always drove it in ev mode. We have a q4 etron aswell so it sits around alot sadly, or luckily in this case.
Thanks for the info really helpful
You’re very welcome! Glad it helped
I have a 2008 4 door EXL-V6 in black and I love it so easy to drive
My pfp is the car
All SM does is hold the gear longer so when it shifts up to the next gear the rpm stays in the power range. Thats all sport mode does.
I’ve found that it also makes the steering a little heavier. But yeah, when it hangs the RPM’s It takes the delay out of the throttle response, because it doesn’t have to downshift. That’s what makes the tranny feel a lot happier.
According to Toyota it also changes when torque converter locks up.
That frame rot looks bad. Definitely need to get that addressed!! Nice review though!
I like their old school 98 look. 😢
Me too. Classic.
I legit owned a 99' Corolla CE for 2 months (Right now and what I drive now) and best car I've ever owned reliability & gas mileage wise. I owned a 2016 Civic EX until it got totaled and not even the civic was better than my Corolla. I've owned over 30+ cars and by far, my Corolla has been treating me the best. I got it for $1,200 legit everything perfect on it mechanically. Only issue was needing a new alternator. Everything else was working as it should, with new parts all around including battery, tires, brakes etc. Cosmetically needed work but only paint wise, body has no dents. It has 193k miles. I got it with a smog check ready to go, with current tags, cold ac, it doesn't even shake or vibrate which is crazy, feels like a new car, seats have no tears either. No weird noises either. I love it man! And yes I'm in Cali where people overpriced their buckets. But this bucket is worth every penny. Legit fills up with $35 and lasts me a month, I drive about 500 miles a month and a week or so. I'm telling you, worth it! I recommend it for a daily!
How much does a job like this cost?
Too damn much lol. It was like $1300 for the frame and $300 for uhaul rentals. Supplies were probably another $300. Suspension, exhaust, fluids and brake lines were probably about $2500 all together. Tires and spacers were another $1500 or so. For me, it ended up being close to $7,000 total… although it could have definitely be done for less without all the “upgrades”. But honestly, these 4Runners have such good resale value that we didn’t lose money overall.
@@NotSoHandyCarGuyThank you for responding! I have a 2009 4Runner V6 4WD that I recently bought up in New Jersey in September at only 67k miles for $22k. The frame has a little bit of rust, I had other people look at it and they all said it is okay not terrible at all. It’s nice to hear that but I still have my doubts. I’m in the military and seeing any bit of rust anywhere is a big NO for me. I’m considering doing a frame swap in the future. Where are the best places to look for a frame? Also, would it be possible I can show you my 4Runner’s frame so I can get your opinion on it? I just want to be sure that I’m making the right call. I’m a pretty new owner and new to working on cars so any and all advice is much welcomed and appreciated, thank you :)
I have a lot of good things to say about the practicality of the gen3 RAV4 - cargo space is huge, the underfloor storage is as big as some small cars have, the middle seat being able to fold is a huge plus when going to IKEA or skiing with your family and also as an easy access for those handling snacks on a road trip, bins are also good. Those plastics and textiles you talked about - actually a plus in my book - besides the passenger seat side losing support the car looks like new on the inside even though it's 17 years old. Of course it has some drawbacks - maintenance regarding the DPF filter is my biggest gripe, also suspension could be more durable, headlights brighter and of course when buying used now the fuel economy is bad when compared to other used cars on the market.
So is it better to get your engine tuned before the transmission tune?
I would say, ideally, do them at the same time. You probably shouldn’t run it TOO long with just an ECU tune, because it could wear down your transmission more quickly.
@NotSoHandyCarGuy but if I was to do them 1 at a time what would be better. I'm not the richest guy
My Honda Pilot 2011 has 200,000 miles on it. Everything original, still drives like the first day. Not a single sound in the car, even when its idling, its really silent.
Recently got a ridgeline. I disagree about the rear seats. Can fit three child seats in the back. I am not a fan of the stadium style seating either, mainly because my toddler can kick my headrest. Otherwise it is class leading in the midsize truck market.
once one car reviewer mentions hard plastic, all feel compelled to do the same. I don't rub the dash or other internal pieces. It's an SUV and the material is appropriate.
What about the window sole where you rest your arm? Or the grab handles, the gear shifter, or the entire center console? You don’t touch any of those?
The Pedal Entrapment Recall was, "blown out of proportion"? Toyota killed at least 89 people! It cost Toyota $1.2 billion. They recalled 8 million vehicles. How the hell is that funny? Are you stupid or something?
LEETS GOOOOO
Hey, at 15 minutes you mentioned the cruise control,if you hold down the cruise control button on the steering wheel for 5 to 10 seconds it will disable the radar cruise control and you can do manual mode like old-school cruise.
No sh*t!! I’m going to try that ASAP. Thanks
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy Yep. Can confirm, it works, and that's what I do.
Amazing video and review. Sums up the Camry very accurately and i agree with all that you said! I have worked on many Camrys, never on the 8th gen though. But I can tell you from personal experience with every single Camry from the 3rd gen all the way to the 7th gen, they are all excellent vehicles, and I always recommend them to anyone looking for a "normal" sedan. Yeah sure there are one or two to stay away from, mostly the 2.4 with the head bolt issues, but otherwise these are great. I will always be a fan of the V6 variants as they offer lots of power and decent fuel economy for what it is. That list of vehicles at the end is also very accurate haha I was not surprised to see Toyota dominate the top end of the list. I think that's expected on any "reliability" list. Anyway, you've been making some amazing videos lately and I cannot wait to see the next one!
I appreciate that a ton. I'd like to tell people that "you can't go wrong with a camry," but there are definitely models within each generation that tend to have more issues than others. But that's why I make these videos! And yeah, I bet you are looking forward to the next video. Not that you're biased or anything. Thanks for the support <3
Great Video, Really informative. Off Topic, do you know if they ever found that missing hiker? He was wearing a carhartt hoodie just like that.
Hey thanks! No. Rumor has it that the hiker was last seen in the lake, floating off towards the mountains, face down. Btw those mountains don’t even hold a candle to the mountains in Mexico
These model years slipped a little on reliability. Run some reports on car iq report and you will see the common issue with these are brake failure. Kind of crazy to think something like brakes could be defective in a modern vehicle....but they may of moved to more electronics/sensors to control this simple operation. Great video man, enjoyed it.
I appreciate the watch and the comment! Yeah, things inherently become more complicated with the increased standard of tech across the board. Take the electronic parking brakes for instance. Or all of the “safety sense” stuff. It’s all a bit much to keep up with. But overall, these are better than the previous two generations.
@@NotSoHandyCarGuy No doubt, and hopefully get better each model year.
I'm just gonna address the elephant in the room. Yeah... my fly was down for like 1/2 of the stand-ups, but I ain't about to re-shoot it 😭 Don't look, you creep.
Oh I'm looking 👀
It sucks that the Camry is now hybrid only. The V6 was brilliant and the 4-cylinder offered a familiar driving experience with a regular automatic.
Couldn’t agree more. Although the hybrid system is great, that V6 sings
Why do you keep comparing a Ridgeline to a F150? Two COMPLETELY different trucks for different duties.
Yeah I understand that. I used an F-150 because it’s the best selling truck in the US, and it’s a truck that a lot of people are familiar with. So the idea was to use it like a unit of measurement. But clearly I didn’t convey that properly, and in reality, it’s not that useful of a measurement.
I have a 2022 Ridgeline that is paid off. I really like the look of the new Tacoma but, $50 k for a TRD off road trim? Absolutely insane. And the reliability on the Toyota is still unknown. Will hang on to my "fake truck" for now.
Fake? The Ridgeline V6 N/A is the best mid-size truck engine in the entire market. Plus the most comfortable and reliable one. Not perfect as the rest of trucks.
Just remember those HP/Tq numbers mean nothing. The important one is what it makes at the wheels and it ain’t much. Like being manual helps. It makes maybe 150whp, and maybe 130lb of torque: which is why it feels gutless perhaps.
I enjoyed this, I dont even own a 4 Runner.
I would like to see a 2.5 hybrid powered Ridgeline.
Do you mean 2.0? Honda doesn’t make a 2.5
WHY ?
Nah. Keep the 3.5
Anything else you’re bitching about? AND YOU OFFERED $13,000 FOR THAT PIECE OF SHIT??? WTH IS WRONG WITH YOUR BRAIN!!! did your doctor prescribe you a helmet?
It's pretty funny how one reviewer loves how the back seats sit up a bit higher and how another reviewer says how they don't like how the back seats sit up..... it's all based upon what your individual preferences are.....
Very true!
Yeah so what I have the 2008 version of the family car.... 300 horse pure unadulterated rage...
I guess hes not use to Reliability, like who bashes the car being Beefy, it's built strong! This isythe Review i was looking for.
The SPORTSCAR of SUV!
My Pilot 2006 LX just pass 200K. Other than a couple of batteries, 2 radiators, 2 timing belts, absolutely reliable! My CD stacker is not working but everything else is ok, so no complains! I also had the Odyssey around that time but no transmission issue for both. I guess I was lucky. Actually right after I bought the car brand new, I used the Synthetic oil (Mobile) and I swear it worked (I actually had a story but that's for another post) so I expected the engine to go far and beyond. I live in Utah and I also had the undercoating done which probably help prevent rusting.
Love the videos! 😁 Courtney recently got a ‘22 HRV and has been loving Honda so far!
Awesome!! Glad she went with the HRV. Thanks Frank
Great video 😂😂😂
Toyota's reliability and safety is made by fake data.
why are you comparing it to an F150 which is a full size truck .. ridgeline is mid size..
I thought someone might ask that. Because the F150 is the best selling truck in the U.S., and it’s one that a lot of people are acquainted with. More of an overall reference point, rather than a comparison.
There is recal from Honda for the tailgate harness, they just changed mine on my 2022 ridg.
Good to know!
